A Reality Music Movement
Local Artist Rolls with Goodwill During National Skate Month During National Roller Skating Month and yearlong, Tate Music Group recording artist AK Hip Hop’s Role Model is an artist and entrepreneur who uses his roller skate skills and great music as featured on his CD release “A Reality Music Movement: Inauguration; The New Beginning of AK Hip Hop's Role Model,” to positively impact his community.

View as PDF Print View October 24, 2010 (FPRC) -- Tate Music Group artist AK Hip Hop’s Role Model is a goodwill ambassador on wheels. The talented Atlanta-based rapper, known locally as Antwawne Kelly, drew inspiration from roller skating to transform his life and that of others using four wheels, incredible athleticism and great music as featured on his CD release “A Reality Music Movement: Inauguration; The New Beginning of AK Hip Hop's Role Model.”
“As a child, skating helped me to digest the negative mental environment of life in the projects,” said the eloquent rapper. “I saw and felt what skating does to the mind, body and soul and connected with this sport.” By age 16, AK was competing and winning against adult skaters in his hometown of Dayton, OH.
In September, 1999, such positive redirection was tested when AK’s friend and competitive skate teammate Sherman Lightfoot was tragically killed in the streets.
“I almost lost my mind,” reflected AK on the tragedy. Within six months, death would also claim the life of his mother. “No one knew how dark I felt,” AK said.
But the skating never stopped, he said. “Skating helped me heal and gave me peace.”

Today, AK splits his time as recording artist and skate instructor. He gives skate lessons at 2 skate rinks in Georgia his skate company name SKATES’ OUT where he teaches Beginner to Advance skate lessons. He has showcased his skills across the country most recently in Ohio, Michigan and Maryland.
